Aguas Arriba lodge is located on the East margin of Lago del Desierto…. In the Rio de las Vueltas valley, El Chaltén, Argentine Patagonia. Separated 234 km from El Calafate, it is situated on a bay protected from the northwest winds, in the heart of the mountains. On quiet days, trouts can be seen from inside the hotel windows. This private property is located in the neighbourhood of a Provincial Reserve, next to The Glaciers National Park. Taking care of environment is both our priority and our duty.

DISTANCE AND TRAVELLING TIMES

From El Calafate to El Chaltén: 214Km.

4 Hours (2:30 hours national paved road and 1:30 hours local gravel road)

From El Chalten to lake: 37 km

1:30 hours local gravel road

From Calafate Airport to El Chaltén: 200km

3.30 hours (2 hours national paved road and 1:30 hours local gravel road)

FROM CALAFATE TO EL CHALTÉN

From Calafate Airport: Located 250 km from Aguas Arriba lodge, receiving daily regular flights of Aerolineas Argentinas.

To arrive at El Chaltén…

By car or private transfers: From Calafate airport we take rp 11 to rn 40, ( aprox 15 km)

Take rn 40 north to  rp 41 for 1.5 hours. Then turn west to el chalten for 1 hour more.

By Bus: There are several daily regular transfer services.

FROM EL CHALTÉN TO THE SOUTH POINT

By private transfer services or by car: From the Calafate Airport, of from El Chaltén. It is a 37 km drive on a gravel road, a scenic road to Lago del Desierto (Provincial Route Nr. 23), following the course of Rio Las Vueltas. Each turn offers a different landscape. Keep your camera handy until arrival to the South Point of the lake, where our boat will be waiting for you
By Car: From El Chaltén, along the main road Av. San Martín, to the north. This is the only road to Lago del Desierto. It is a scenic road. When you leave the town, it  becomes a gravel road for 37 km. Bridges, rivers coming from the icefields, forest, always along the Río de las Vueltas. It will take you 1.5 to get to the lake.
Regular Transfers: are available from El Chaltén up to Lago del Desierto. They will drop you off at the same destination.

ARRIVAL TO THE LODGE!
FROM LAGO DEL DESIERTO SOUTH POINT TO THE LODGE

Our boat will pick you up… There is no road to arrive by car… The lodge is only reachable by boat, or walking during three hours through a mountain trail…

SAILING BY BOAT...

We sail for 15 minutes, along the east bank of the lake, enjoying the views, the hanging glaciers, the condor nests, the waterfalls and… we arrive at our home, your home…

WALKING IN...

We leave your luggage in the boat, while we start our magical journey hiking through almost unexplored private trails during 3 hours… We will go through a forest of centenary trees, hanging bridges, or water falls among the rocks to cross through the mountain rivers… Initiating a voyage to relax… an adventure in close contact with nature, far away from the noises and the chaos of city life.

To coordinate the pick up time at Lago del Desierto South Point, please get in touch with Reservations at: +54 9 11 6134 8452, at least 48 hours before arrival. Upon any unforeseen event, please call the lodge at +54 9 11 4152 5697 or send a WhatsApp message at +54 9 11 3898 5900, we will be glad to help you as soon as possible. Please have in mind that cell phone connection will be lost upon leaving El Calafate.
